GNOGP Coordinating Committee Minutes, 7/6/02

o  TOWN HALL MEETING ON CRIME:  Antoinette Miller
informed us of a town hall meeting which will
serve as a forum to discuss concerns and solutions
for New Orleans' skyrocketing crime rate.  The
meeting will be held on Monday, July 29 at 6:30 PM
at 6114 St. Claude Ave.  Further discussion of
Green involvement in this event will take place at
the next general membership meeting on Sunday,
July 14.

o  BASTILLE DAY PARTY/GREEN KITCHEN:  To be held
Saturday July 13 from 8 pm to midnight, hosted by
John Clark.

o  MISSISSIPPI GREENS:  Jason Neville is in
communication with the Mississippi Greens re GNOGP
meeting with them in the near future.

o  AFFINITY GROUPS/SERVICE PROJECTS: John Clark
highlighted the importance of affinity groups in
building grassroots movements; also mentioned
service projects as a way of demonstrating
commitment to/creating involvement in the
community.

o  DEPARTMENT OF PEACE:  Pax Christi is supporting
Rep. Dennis Kucinich's call for a Department of
Peace (more info: http://www.kucinich.net/home_detail.asp?PID=22 )
and are seeking to bring Rep. Kucinich to New
Orleans in the Spring of 2003 to promote his idea.
They are requesting the GNOGP's support &
assistance in the matter.

o  STATE GREEN PARTY FOUNDING CONVENTION:  A
mailer advertising the State Green Party founding
convention is to be prepared.  A work day has been
tentatively slated for July 20th at the GNOGP
office, the purpose of which will be to get the
mailer out.  Other issues re founding convention
to be discussed at the next general meeting.
