GNOGP: Minutes

On Sunday, March 24 the GNOGP Coordinating Committee met. Committee
members present were Josh and Art. Others present were Mike, Steve, John
C., and John K. We discussed 3 points.

1. OFFICE COMMITTEE: Mike reported on the plans he and Bart have developed
to staff, renovate, and organize the office. STAFFING: Beginning April 6
the office will be open each Saturday from 10:00am to 6pm. Two volunteers
will staff the office from 10:00 to 2:00 and two others will cover from
2:00 to 6:00. Besides keeping the office open, the volunteers will work on
GNOGP projects. RENOVATING: Tasks ranging from general cleanup to
installing a window are needed to make our office functional and habitable.
Work on making those improvements has already begun and will continue on
Saturday, March 30 beginning at 10:00am. Everyone is encouraged to come
out and help. ORGANIZING: The office will be organized to make
information easily accessible to members and to provide an area for
meeting, working, and socializing.

2. OUTREACH: Josh suggested the GNOGP needs an Outreach Coordinator. This
person would be responsible for establishing and maintaining a calendar of
progressive events and meetings in New Orleans and for coordinating the
GNOGP's involvement in the broader progressive movement. It was noted that
we already have an excellent calendar developed by Andrea on the GNOGP
website. Josh and Steve agreed to share outreach responsibilities in an
interim capacity. At the next membership meeting, the CC will ask that we
create the position of outreach coordinator and seek someone to fill it.

3. EDUCATION: John Clark offered two education-related proposals. One was
to begin a GNOGP outreach educational program that would try to have a
speaker or film every month. These programs would probably be held at
Loyola and would be cosponsored with the Loyola Greens. The other was to
begin an ongoing GNOGP study group, beginning perhaps with study of Howard
Zinn's history of the US. John volunteered to coordinate work on both
proposals. Those present heartily endorsed John's suggestions.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
---Josh announced that Sam Price is organizing a benefit at Cafe Brasil in
support of a woman on a peace march to Washington, D.C. Josh thought the
benefit will be on Sunday, April 7 during the afternoon and early evening.
More details to follow.
---Josh announced that the next Green Kitchen will be on Sunday, April 7 at
his apartment, probably at 7:30 or 8:00 (following the benefit announced
above). More details to follow.
---John Clark announced that a friend who is a journalist from Bangladesh
will speak at Loyola on Tues., April 9 at 7:30pm. John encouraged greens
to attend and to publicize this talk. More details to follow.

NEXT CC MEETING: TBA--next Sunday is Easter. Remember, CC meetings are
open to all GNOGP members.
