Minutes of GNOGP General Membership Meeting 11/23/03

GPLA Rep's Report (Jason Neville) 
o  Green Party of Louisiana (GPLA) to institute a "100 for $100" 
fundraising campaign: goal is to get 100 individuals across the state 
to donate $100 apiece. 
o  GPLA Treasurer Robert Caldwell to open GPLA bank account tomorrow, 
thus creating the GPLA Treasury. 
o  GPLA now has a representative in the National Campaigns 
Coordinating Committee: rep is Jason Jones. 

GPUS Rep's Report (Debbie McManus): Debbie and Jason Jones are GPLA 
reps to the Green Party of the United States (GPUS).  So far, they 
have voted to approve the following proposals: 
o  To issue a statement opposing the Free Trade Agreement of the 
Americas (FTAA) 
o  To create a committee whose purpose is to resolve disputes within 
the GPUS 
o  To create an accreditation system for delegates 

FTAA Demo Report (Les Evenchick): Les initiated discussion on actions 
the GNOGP could take in response to police violence against peaceful 
demonstrators at the FTAA talks in Miami.  

Safe and Free Coalition (Joe Wagner): Joe reminded the group that the 
Coalition's first major public education event, a forum 
entitled "Keep America Safe and Free," will be taking place on 
Tuesday, January 13, 2004 from 6-8:30 at the UNO Downtown Theatre at 
619 Carondelet. The event will be sponsored by New Breed New 
Orleans.  

NYU Forum (Leenie Halbert): Leenie gave a report on the recent 
conference held at NYU which she attended.  Discussion centered on 
two major issues: (1) Strategies to combat the perception of the 
Green Party as a "spoiler" party; (2) The question of whether or 
not the GP should run a candidate in the 2004 presidential election.  
Consensus re the latter issue was "Yes, GP should run a candidate."  
Leenie also obtained a copy of the film "Third Party: Political 
Alternatives in the Age of Duopoly" which is likely to be shown 
at an upcoming GNOGP-sponsored educational event. 

Transit Committee Report (Jason Neville) 
o  Coalition on Sustainable Transit currently working with city 
gov't on the Canal St. bike lane project 
o  Coalition members Jason, Dar Wolnik were quoted in a recent City 
Business newspaper article 
o  Coalition to sponsor activist training workshop in January 

III. Old Business 

Nomination/Election of Coordinators 
o  Julie Whitbeck elected Education Coordinator by unanimous vote 
o  Leenie Halbert elected unanimously as Elections Coordinator 
o  Cammie Brewer elected as representative to GPLA 11-0. 

IV. New Business 

o  Support of Anti-Discrimination Petition:  Affirmed 10-0 with 1 
abstention.  Voices opposition to Loyola University's recent decision 
to deny privileges normally associated with spouses of students to 
the domestic partner of a lesbian graduate student. 

o  State Presidential Convention (Les Evenchick): Les moved 
that: "the GNOGP directs its delegates to the Green Party of 
Louisiana Coordinating Committee (GPLA CC) to introduce a resolution 
to GPLA CC calling for a state convention to elect nine delegates and 
alternates to the Green Party of the United States (GPUS) national 
presidentioal nominating convention according to the provisions of 
the GPUS accreditation proposals."  Motion passed unanimously. 

o  Green Kitchen: Motion to disburse $50 to Steve Godfrey for costs 
associated with the Green Kitchen.  Motion passed unanimously. 

o  Coalition on Reproductive Choice (Jennette Ginsburg): Jennette 
moved that GNOGP sign on as a sponsor of this coalition.  Discussion 
tabled until next meeting.
