II. Reports

A. Treasurer's Report (Bart Everson for A. Carpenter)
1. In July we raised a total of $549.31, exceeding our monthly goal
of $478 by 15%.
(net receipts from the ARK Poetry Party of 7/12 account for $154.31
of this amount; the rest comes from pledges and donations.)
2. Balance as of 8/23: $172.26
3. We are still $575 in arrears for rent
4. $16 collected at the present meeting

B. Sustainable Transit (Jason Neville)
1. Has enlisted the support of the New Orleans Bicycle Club in
working toward one of the committee's goals, the establishment of
crosstown bicycle lanes.
2. Now consists of four members: Jason Neville, Andy Allan, Evelyn
Goss, and new GNOGP member Pierce.

III. Old Business

A. Office (John Kearney)
1. The recommendation was made to vacate the Palm St. office by the
end of September.
Reasons include:
- relatively high rent expense
- risk of water damage to office equipment and furnishings due to
leaky roof
- with the advent of the mosquito-borne West Nile epidemic, the
pools of standing water produced by the interaction of rain and leaky
roof constitute a health hazard.
2. New office space will be secured within three months of vacating
the current office. Possible sites include The ARK and Hope House
3. A motion was made to authorize John Kearney to make all decisions
relevant to procuring new office space. Motion passed unanimously.
4. It was emphasized that the $575 in back rent is to be paid in a
timely manner; fundraiser(s) will be held for this purpose.

IV. New Business

A. Gary Wainwright for D.A.: GNOGP endorsement
- Although Mr. Wainwright's platform shares many points of
congruence with Green Party values, it was the decision of
the membership that the GNOGP not endorse his candidacy.
1. Because of the track record of Independent candidates in New
Orleans over the last thirty years or so (they've generally not
been successful) Mr. Wainwright is running as a Democrat.
2. Current GNOGP policy is to not endorse candidates of other
political parties. It was therefore decided that we not formally
endorse Mr. Wainwright's candidacy.
3. We do, however, strongly encourage our members to vote for and
campaign for him.

B. Modifications to Bylaws
1. A motion was made that we adopt already-formed committees'
mission statements. Motion passed unanimously.
2. It was proposed that the bylaws be modified so as to allow
individuals to hold more than one office. This would allow, for
example, the Office Coordinator to assume the duties of Speaker as
well. This will be voted on at the next GNOGP meeting.
