MINUTES OF GNOGP GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING, 7/14/02

CATHOLIC WORKER HOUSE. New member Andre Fourroux spoke about efforts to
establish a Catholic Worker House here in New Orleans, with the goal of
encouraging GNOGP support of said efforts. He donated to the GNOGP library
a book about Catholic Worker Movement co-founder Dorothy Day. More
information about the Catholic Worker movement can be found at
www.justpeace.org and at http://www.catholicworker.org/ ; Andre can be
reached at henri_andre_48@hotmail.com .

TREASURER'S REPORT.
- In June we raised $344.70, which is 72% of our monthly goal of $478.
-We cleared $155 from the ARK/Art Goodtimes benefit.
- We were able to meet our rent expense this month, which is good news
indeed. However, we are still $575 in arrears on rent.
- If you'd like to donate/make a monthly pledge to the GNOGP but are not yet
on our mailing list, email us with address info at green@rox.com . No
amount is too small!

MISSISSIPPI GREENS. Representatives from the Mississippi Greens will be on
hand at the Louisiana Green Party Founding Convention on Sun., Sept. 1.

ART GOODTIMES SPEAKS.
The chair of the GPUS accreditation committee held forth on several topics,
including:
- the importance of organizing at the grassroots level as well as having
high-profile Greens at the national level to boost interest in the party
(e.g., Art ran for county commissioner in San Miguel County, CO at the same
time as Nader's presidential run; Nader's numbers in San Miguel County were
the highest per-county results in the nation).
- the desirability of running Green candidates at the community level
(planning commissions, school boards, and so forth).

LOUISIANA GP FOUNDING CONVENTION.
- David Cobb from Texas Greens will be the keynote speaker and will serve as
facilitator on Saturday, perhaps Sunday as well. LA Greens to pay Mr.
Cobb's flight expense (~$120).
- Malik Rahim and Antoinette Harrell-Miller will speak at the convention.
- In recognition of the importance of bringing multiple perspectives into
the dialogue, other local, non GP-affiliated activists and activist groups
will be slated to speak and will be invited to provide input toward the
formulation of the party's platform.

COMMITTEE ON SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION.
- voted into existence with Jason Neville as coordinator.
- has as its goals, in part, to "organize and to advocate...sustainable
transit solutions in New Orleans...including bicycle infrastructures,
increased bus services, [and] commuter rail."
- More specific information on the committee will be available on this site
at a later date. In the meantime, those interested in investing their
energies into this project are invited to contact Jason Neville at
nevitate@lycos.com .

OFFICE COMMITTEE REPORT.
- It was generally agreed by those present that it will be necessary to
relocate the GNOGP office at some point in the near future. Reasons for
this decision include the risk of water damage to office furnishings and
equipment as well as the relatively high cost of rent.
- We are in need of a computer and a copier. If you or someone you know
would like to donate these items, please let us know.

BYLAWS.
- Adopted by unanimous vote
- Can be found at http://green.rox.com/bylaws.php

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING NOW AT NEW TIME.
- Meetings will now be held at 10:30 on the fourth Saturday of every month
at the Party's office.
- "Caffeine & carbs" (coffee and bagels) to be provided by those responsible
for opening the office on Saturday mornings.

DENNIS KUCINICH VISIT
- Pax Christi has requested GNOGP's support in bringing Rep. Dennis Kucinich
to New Orleans in the Spring of 2003 to speak about his proposal to create a
cabinet-level Department of Peace. Motion was passed to provide said
support in the form of advertising the event, with possible financial
support as well.
