Here are the minutes of our last General Meeting on November 11, 2001. We had a great meeting. Facilitator: Evelyn Goss Secretary: Jason Neville Attendance: 19 (14 GNGOP members) Treasury: We have $1166.27 in our Treasury, and $14 was raised by passing the hat. Announcements: -Non-violence training @ Xavier (January 19-20, 2002) -Raffle tickets available for students going to Nicaragua -John Clark speaking @ Loyola "The Imaginary War" 11/12/01 -N.O. hosting Green Alliance conference on January 19-21, 2002 -Zapatista Speaker coming to UNO soon Candidates: Rev. Brown and Malik Rahim asked the GNOGP to endorse their campaigns for Mayor and Council At-Large, respectively. Steve, DJ, and Jason met with the two the previous Friday to ask some questions about their positions on key issues such as education, environment and affordable housing. That committee recommended endorsing Malik, but not endorsing Rev. Brown for Mayor. The committee did suggest endorsing Rev. Brown if he were to run for a district council seat. After about 15 minutes of questions to Malik, the group voted unanimously to endorse his campaign. A volunteer list was circulated and collected by Jason. A meeting for volunteers was scheduled for Sunday, November 18th 5PM @ GNOGP office. Call Jason for info 909-2837 Rev. Brown did not show up to the meeting, and we voted unanimously not to endorse him for mayor. Website/Webmaster: Group votes unanimously to make green.rox.com the official GNOGP website, and to have Bart Everson the official webmaster. Green Alternative Books: Group unanimously decides to approve $33 for ten books, "The Green Alternative" to use at tablings and in the office. Newsletter: Leora reports on her progress as Newsletter Coordinator. She needs stuff on Wal-Mart and Malik's campaign. Will accept stuff until 11/13. Was quoted $300 for 10pg/1000 copies. Group unanimously empowers Coordinating Committee and Leora to disperse necessary funds to cover newsletter costs. The CC can also plan a three-month calendar to be included in the newsletter. Audubon Park: Teresa mentions ongoing Audubon Park struggle (saveaudubonpark.org) Genealogy Research: Antoinette discussed outdated records facilities of St. Helena Parish courthouse. Wants GNOGP to assist her new organization, African-American Genealogy Connection in helping to preserve the documents by photocopying records and making a database.
